PERTH ZOO - CASE STUDY

SUNPOWER HARNESSES SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR PERTH ZOO

With more than 610,000 visitors every year, Perth Zoo is one of Western Australia’s major attractions. The Zoo provides visitors the opportunity to encounter the natural world and become involved in conservation action. It is committed to conservation, minimizing its impact on the environment and aims to be a leading, working example of environmental sustainability.

The Perth Zoo solar installation was initiated when the Zoo was planning a new crocodile exhibit and identified it required a large amount of energy to heat the crocodile’s exterior pool. Using grid electricity to heat the pool to the required temperature would have been very expensive so the Zoo began looking for alternative options to save money on energy. Solar was deemed to be the best solution and also delivered the best economic return.
